Lament
Above the hats and overcoats,
As frozen in its flight as I
Who at the feet of comrades lie,
A solitary snowflake floats.
Condensed to quips and anecdotes,
My life reflects the pallid sky
Above the hats and overcoats,
As frozen in its flight as I.
Amazing Grace escapes the throats
Of those who brave the long goodbye.
Distilled, a fog-enshrouded sigh,
The hymn ascends with mournful notes
Above the hats and overcoats,
As frozen in its flight as I.
